Jiřička & Ježek: HOW WEATHER IS MADE

31. říjen 2014

Stormy waves of radio broadcastWomen – birds – storm – weather reports – dew point – Gott – oak – Skrivanek – R=17 – all is composed of a period and a comma.

The project by Lukáš Jiřička and Martin Ježek endeavours to approach by means of sound the unique magical thinking of the “insit” artist Zdeněk Koška, and to translate his art into the medium of radio. Košek’s drawings are pivotal for the very structure of the composition – one of his weather maps was used not only as the score of the sound composition, but also as a direct inspiration for a part of the sonic universe of Košek’s specific “kabala” which is based on weather watching, the flight of birds, knowledge of chemistry and mathematics, interconnecting typography with mathematics and colours or sexual imagination that is created even by human voices of four distinctive characteristics and randomness - which, however, does not really exist. The acoustic-dramatic blueprint of the composition derives from the interpretation of Došek’s “weather maps” which are full of time data and poetic chains of words, figures on meteorological conditions, place names or weather interpretation as an act of making love, human body gestures or mental expressions.
